Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information AGEA Bookkeeping & Accounting Inc. collects through this website, why, who it goes to, and the choices you have. We follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who we are

What we collect and why
When you request a consultation on our booking page, we collect your name, email address, business name, phone number, industry, the number of employees on payroll, the services you're interested in, where your books stand, and anything you write in the message box. We use it to reply to you, arrange the call, and prepare a quote.
When you sign up for the quarterly digest, we collect your email address and use it only to send the digest. Every email lets you unsubscribe, or you can ask us to remove you.
When you email or call us, we keep what you send so we can answer it.
When you visit the site, our web host keeps standard server logs (such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested, and the time) to keep the site running and secure. We don't use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. When you submit a form, our host may set a short-lived security cookie to filter out automated spam.
We only collect what we need for these purposes, and we don't use it for anything else without asking you first.
Your consent
By sending us a form or an email, you consent to us using your information for the purpose you sent it. You can withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us, though we may then be unable to help with your request.
Who we share it with
We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run our website and email, and only so they can provide that service:
- HostGator hosts this website and processes form submissions. Its servers may be located in the United States.
- Google Workspace provides our email, where form submissions and your messages are received and stored. Google may store data outside Canada.
- Google Fonts supplies the fonts on this site, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Information stored outside Canada
Because our service providers may store or process information in the United States or elsewhere, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries, including access by their courts and authorities. You can ask us about these providers and how they protect your information.
How long we keep it
- Consultation requests from people who don't become clients: one year after our last contact, then deleted.
- Digest email addresses: until you unsubscribe.
- If you become a client, your information is kept as your engagement letter and our professional and tax record-keeping obligations require.
How we protect it
The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, form submissions go straight to our email rather than into a website database, and only our own team can access that mailbox.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we're not required to keep it. Email accounting@agea-bc.ca and we'll respond within the time the law requires, generally 30 days.
Questions and complaints
Contact our privacy officer first and we'll try to resolve it. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if our practices change, and the date at the top shows when it was last revised.
