Your tax year with us.

Five dates that matter. You're responsible for one of them.

  1. Before your year-endWe do it

Plan while it can still change the outcome

A planning conversation about salary versus dividends, the timing of big purchases, and anything else that has to happen before the year closes.

  2. February to MarchYou do it

    Send your slips

T4s, T5s, RRSP receipts, and anything else that arrives in the mail. Business income is already in the books we keep.

  3. April 30We do it

    File personal returns

T1 returns filed for you and, if you like, your family. Any balance owing is due by April 30 for everyone, including the self-employed.

  4. June 15We do it

    File self-employed returns

Sole proprietors with T2125 business income have until June 15 to file, though any balance was still due April 30.

  5. Year-end + 6 monthsWe do it

    File your corporate T2

Prepared from twelve closed months. Corporate tax owing is due earlier, two or three months after year-end, and we tell you the amount before then.

GST/HST and PST returns are filed on your own schedule, monthly, quarterly, or annually, from books we've already closed. If the CRA writes to you, forward the letter and we reply.

Who it suits.

  • Incorporated businesses and the owners who draw from them
  • Sole proprietors filing business income on a T1
  • Businesses registered, or about to register, for GST/HST or PST
  • Anyone behind on filings who wants to get current with the CRA

Where we're not the right fit.

  • Audited or reviewed financial statements, which need a CPA firm
  • U.S. returns and complex estate or trust filings, which we refer to specialists

If that's you, we'll say so on the call and point you somewhere better.

Moving your tax file to us.

Most of it is paperwork we handle. You sign one authorization.

  1. Step 1

    Send your last returns

Your last two years of returns and notices of assessment, so we know where you stand.

  2. Step 2

    Authorize us with the CRA

We're added as your representative, so we can see your accounts and answer the CRA directly.

  3. Step 3

    Plan before the next deadline

We look at what's coming due and book the planning conversation before your next year-end.

Tax questions.

Yes. We bring late and prior-year returns current, starting with whatever is attracting penalties or interest first, and deal with the CRA on your behalf while we do.

Yes. As your authorized representative, we handle CRA letters, reviews, and requests for information directly. Forward anything you receive and we take it from there.

Often the honest answer is "not yet". Incorporating mostly saves tax when you leave money in the company. Our comparison guide walks through where the line usually falls, and we'll look at your numbers on the call.

Once your taxable sales pass $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters. Some businesses register earlier on purpose, to claim input tax credits. We cover both in our GST/HST guides.

For bookkeeping clients, it's part of the flat monthly fee, with no separate bill at year-end. For tax-only work, we quote a fixed price after the free consultation.
