The CCB went up on July 1. What families can receive per child from July 2026 to June 2027, and why filing your tax return on time matters for it.
The Canada Child Benefit is a tax-free monthly payment to help families with the cost of raising children. It is indexed to inflation every July 1, and the new benefit year started July 1, 2026.
| Child's age | Maximum per year | Increase from 2025-26 |
|---|---|---|
| Under 6 | $8,157 | Up to $160 |
| 6 to 17 | $6,883 | Up to $135 |
The CRA's example: a family with one child aged 5 and one aged 9 and an adjusted net family income of $65,000 receives about $11,430 in 2026-27, nearly $400 more than in 2025-26.
Because the CCB is based on last year's income, it depends on your tax return being filed. If you are self-employed or own a business, a late personal return can hold up the benefit as well as the tax. Both spouses or common-law partners need to file each year, even if one had no income.
This summary is general information only. Your actual payment depends on your family's circumstances; the CRA's child benefit calculator gives an estimate for your situation.
